something to think about

Something for pnm's to think about.
I'm a senior this year, and let me tell you that member selection at ole miss is nothing like you hear, or see, or imagine! There are politics at play in at least 6 of the 11 chapters on campus. Let me explain how girls get chosen.
Our sophomores start in the spring identifying girls from their hometowns who will be attending ole miss that would make great new members. They will in a way "sponsor" their favorites. Their "rush crushes". They will tell all their friends about them, friends will start following them on social media, they will make posters with the pnm's pictures and stats on them and hang these posters up and down the hallways in the sorority house. They will invite these girls to stay with them and attend spring parties with them. They will text and keep in touch throughout the summer. Top girls will be placed in our slide shows we review as a group. We don't vote, we simply get to know the girls way before they set foot in our house.
Our alumni also get their say so, call our alumni advisors and have their own lists. They will call us, especially the alumni who wrote our recs for us, and ask us to "get to know their favorites". We happily do.
By the time rush starts, we already know who we hope to bid.

Once rush starts, the only girls who will be voting for you, or ranking you will be the girls you actually talk to. So, if you are picked up by one girl, and only talk to one girl, only one girl will vote for you. If she votes no, you are cut. If we have friends coming through, we make darn sure we either pick them up at the door, or bump the girl who did. We will try to get as many of our friends as possible to come over to say hello. If you talk to six girls, six girls will vote on you.
I wish I had known this when I went through. If you get a boring girl, or an awkward girl, you will still have to impress her if you want an invite back for the next round. You can't count on that stellar rec letter than the former chapter president wrote for you to pull you through to the next round.
Girls that rank low, or get a no vote are removed from the lists, the others move up to take their place.
Remember, the lists are already ordered before rush starts. The only movement in the lists will be if girls fail to impress during rounds, they will be removed.
This is why knowing actives in the house are soooooo important!
