Yes, in some chapters, the alumnae have quite a bit of say in who gets bids. In some chapters, the actives don't even vote. In other chapters, the chapter makes their own decisions and the alumnae do not have any say. It all depends on the house.

Right now, our chapters are over 300 members strong. After rush, we will be over 400! There are over 1600 girls coming through rush. There is no way we can get to know everyone. Seriously, can you imagine how long it would take to go through that many girls and vote?!? Most sororities have a sort of ranking system in place. Like a point system. 1 point for a gap higher than our requirement. 1 point for having certain qualities we are looking for, etc. I can't really tell you more without giving away voting secrets. But, after we score you, you are placed on our lists, somewhere. Our rush team and alumni advisors usually are the only ones who order and/or see the lists.

They take into consideration how we, as actives, feel about girls. Some of us rank, others touch a girl and someone lurking in the corners actually is counting how many touches each girl gets. Like seriously every sorority has a method. One sorority allows each member to choose a girl they would cut off their arm for. That girl get a higher spot on their lists. We re-rank, count touches, etc after each round and the lists are sorted again.

Here's the tricky part. We have no idea how many girls Panhellenic is going to allow us to invite back for the next round until after we turn in our lists. Top chapters will be forced to make heavier cuts than bottom chapters. It's all based on return rates.

Anyway, I digress. next post. I ran out of room
