why does ole miss wait so long for rush?

Rumor has it that ole miss used to be nicknamed "u-haul university" when rush was held before classes started. Apparently when girls didn't get a bid, or got a bid to a less desirable house, they dropped out of school, dad would come get them in a u-haul and moved them right into another school where they would re-rush, hoping for better results.

The idea is that when girls had the opportunity to meet other girls and make friends with girls before rush, they will be happier and more willing to stick around regardless of the bids they receive.

It's pretty cool that most of us have great friends in other houses because we became friends freshman year while bonding before rush started.

And when they moved the dates for rush back, the University made sure that you miss the final drop date to get your money back if you chose to leave school. Parents were less likely to pull up with the U Haul, if they couldn't get that tuition money back.
