barely any recs... good chance during rush?
by: OOSI am an OOS freshman, and I only have recommendation letters for three sororities here at Ole Miss. I contacted my local panhellenic office and requested recs, but few have gotten back with me. I am also the only person within my family to try to go greek. Do I even have a chance at getting a bid?

Many alumnae have written recommendations all summer long and are done working for this year.
From the UM Panhellenic web site:
"Sororities at Ole Miss have requested that recommendation letters be sent as soon as available and, if possible, before Sept. 5, 2016. Some sororities will accept recommendation letters after this date."
If the OP has looked for months and says she knows no sorority alumnae to write a rec, I doubt that another couple of weeks will change the situation.
The lack of recs will affect her results, but she will still have several options.

Horrible advice!
In my chapter our national bylaws state that we can't extend an invitation to pref parties with out a rec.
It's in most sororities bylaws. The only exception may be the lower tier sororities who will have their alumni advisors write you one if they plan to give you a bid.
Top tier have too many girls with Recs to worry about the girls who don't have them.
