wondering/worrying

Does anyone know if Ole Miss is implementing the same sliding quota type system State just did for their rush. Tons of girls were completely cut. Not just grade/reputation risks. Legacies etc.

I think you are confusing a sliding quota with quota additions.

Dint forget that chapter totals will be readjusted and smaller sororities will be allowed to take more quota additions than larger sororities in an attempt to even out chapter totals.

I've never heard of a sliding quota. What does that even mean?

I think it's a way to level out the memberships in the houses. So houses that are larger will have a smaller quota and houses that have a smaller membership would have a larger quota. But it doesn't take into account a few things though. One is personal experience/feelings about a house. Sometimes you go in and just know that a house (regardless of tier) isn't a good fit for you and that's why having the option to rank them lower and not go back is a good one for a pnm. It also doesn't take into account the tent talk and let's face it, there are girls who just won't accept a bid to a house that they don't think it "good enough" and don't like that their chances for their legacy house or top tier gets even tougher.

But is it really coming to ole miss this year? Is it necessary? ADPi had a great rush last year. APhi will probably do great this year as well. They are both new, and growing and there's no reason to believe that their numbers won't continue to grow. And while Theta didn't make quota last year, I always heard that was a strategic decision, they were focusing on quality rather than quantity. I think I remember a Theta posting on here that they took the girls who they wanted who wanted to be there, rather than just hope for anybody? And quite honestly, that's not a bad thing.

I can see putting in sliding quote after a few years, allowing ADPi and Aphi to get a few rounds of rush under their belts. not sure why it would be necessary this year. But that's just my opinion.

They have officially changed it to sliding quota this year. Houses with more members will take a smaller pledge class, and houses like alpha phi with less will be taking a much larger pledge class.

Isn't that the idea behind quota additions? larger chapters don't take as many because they are already at, or close to total.

It's why Ddd, xo, and kd don't take as many quota additions as say kappa did.

But instead this year some sororities will be taking a very much smaller pledge class and some will be taking a much larger, like a very huge difference

If that's true, the larger chapters are extremely lucky! Pledge classes have gotten way way too big and smaller pledge classes will certainly help with bonding, and sisterhood in general.

It will actually hurt the smaller chapters. Large pledge classes are harder to manage, plan events for, seat for dinner etc.

Top tier sororities will take less than 120 girls this fall. We are doing this to help adpi and alpha phi!

The houses here that are larger and retain more members can ONLY take X amount of girls and won't have additions. The smaller chapter or ones that have lower retention will take way more. Like for example Chi O, DG, and KD at MSU took between 77-81 girls, and Zeta and Pi Phi took 105+. ADPi was supposed to take 120 but girls dropped instead of taking the bid and they ended up with like 85. Hopefully girls here stick with it instead of drop.

The houses not at total ( there were 6 not at total ) had variable numbers at State. That doesn't mean they had to take that number. ADPi chose to take between 80 - 90 all along. With a newer chapter on campus, you want strategic growth. Quality versus quantity, likely this will happen with your newer chapters at Ole Miss, too.

Heard that top houses at State cut legacies big time. That they only took 25-30 legacies per house at the most.

Not unusual at all at big sec schools where there is no way to take all legacies. Just how it is.....

Yes we had to cut more legacies than usual and it was very difficult. My chapter typically cuts a lot (because no one wants an entire pledge class of legacies) but it was much worse this year.
