i'm from new england

by:

Hi I'm from New England but decided to go down south because I've always been fascinated by southern culture and am looking for an adventure. I was wondering will where I am from pose as an advantage or disadvantage during sorority recruitment? An advantage because if you visited me during breaks you could have easy access to New York City and I live about 2.5 hours from Boston. Or would it be a disadvantage because I've heard most southerns aren't particularly found of "Yankees." Thank you!

It's funny you think your proximity to big cities makes you attractive. These girls don't need you, must of them can pay for penthouse hotels rooms on top of a first class flight ticket. Your "couple of hours away" doesn't phase them.

Lmao I can tell you're a total wannabe...Yes we stay in nice suites but no one I know stays in penthouses on vacation and I'm one of the Jackson elite... Like come on. The girl is just trying to come up with a reason why her hometown might be an advantage. To OP it would be best if you had a house of the coast but simple proximity to NYC isn't going to help or hurt you. Lack of connections will though as ole miss recruitment is very connections based.

Jackson Elite? The only people who think that is prestigious are people from Mississippi. Don't worry, You aren't the type of girl I was referring to

Also I'm not OP. I'm in a top house here at ole miss and it's honestly funny how low yall's standards are for considering someone "wealthy".

you're cute. a weekend in the penthouse at the Mandarin in NYC would run you approx 10k, before your first class ticket. That level of wealth does NOT exist with "most of" the girls in ole miss greek life.

OP, you will need to the connections, or as said below to go in open minded.

Dude... I was simply stating that I'm the typical "wealthy Jackson" girl that you would assume the poster was speaking of ("these girls don't need you they're wealthy enough.") as this is miss you'd safely assume she was talking about Jackson girls... If you weren't then I'm not too sure whose gr board you think you're on Hun, you're just embarrassed I called you out for over embellishing our lifestyles since you clearly aren't one of us lol

I guess you haven't noticed to near 50% out of state population. You would think Jackson girls would realize that there prestige is VERY regional

SO besides the point, she was clearly talking about Jackson girls. daughters of celebrities don't even "vacation in NYC penthouses" let alone the wealthy of ole miss (Jackson or oos, the girl is clearly not rich herself so she shouldn't be hating on the OP for offering a quick drive to NYC... Hell)

Disadvantage because of your lack of connections

These replies have really bothered me I went to boarding school in Conn and my brother was in New Hampshire and we both loved ! The people in Nee England were so nice to us even though we came from the south. To the original poster please come down to Ole Miss and get to know lots of people before rush , you should do fine. If you can find people who were in these sororities to write recs and letters of support that will help a lot. I hope you love it here !!!

This is an interesting post!

New England is cool. Sure we would love to visit, but that's not why we would give anyone a bid. if that's how you're going to market yourself, better dig a little deeper.

It's not that your from the north, it's the fact that you simply won't have as many connections as girls from the south will have.

It doesn't mean you won't get a bid, it just means you won't have as many options as girls with more connections will have.

This site is overrun by know it all alumnae who have nothing better to do with theirselves than anonymously put down others.

Consider Alpha Phi. They are new and building at Ole Miss. They have extremely strong collegiate and alum chapters in New England.
