lavalier or pin

by: Question ?

When my parents were in college my dad gave my mom his Frat letters to wear (lavalier )and a couple of years later he pinned her. Is this still a thing at Ole Miss ?

If it is still done, I have never heard about it in my 3 years on campus.

My sorority still does candle passes when a girl gets engaged, but no pinning (that I know of).

My dad made my mom a ring out of his pin that she wore until they got engaged. I would think as traditional and southern as Ole Miss is that it would still be a thing.

My mom talks about her "candlelight" when she got lavaliered (they called it "dropped") and engaged while at Ole Miss. It was how you announced the event to your sisters. With all the social media today everyone knows within minutes. She said she got engaged over the summer and didn't tell any of her sisters until they got back to school so she could have her candlelight to tell everyone.

That is great ! My dad was thrown in the fountain by his Fraternity brothers . It would be so cool if the tradition came back again.

The candle pass is still alive and well at ole miss! It's always fun when you see a candle mysteriously show up at the sorority house and everyone guessing who is going to blow it out during the ceremony.

I've seen that many time, but no lavaleir or pinning.

Perhaps the fraternity guys aren't as romantic as they used to be.

Well perhaps fraternity guys are wise enough not entertain marriage enough to get engaged while still in college. 60% of marriages before age 25 end in divorce.

I'm always amazed when my sisters get engaged at such a young age. Many of the mothers actually push the relationships and want to see that ring (mostly from my sisters from Mississippi)

Lavaliered just means you are dating and I think it would be romantic. Being pinned is pre engaged .
