camp connections

by: Notahappycamper

Is the camp connections really important for getting into a good sorority? Did I have to go to Ozark, longhorn or Waldemar to have a good shot at a bid?

First of all, this is Mississippi, not Texas. Longhorn and Waldemar won't help you here.

As far as camp goes, yes, the connections you make while at camp do help, not because you attended a camp, but because you met girls who can help you through rush!

Top six sororities do not usually take girls they don't already know. Whether it's an active or an alumni, connections are critically important. Camps are just one way of making connections, not the only way.

Thanks, two girls were talking at orientation about all the girls they already knew through camp and I didn't know if that really helped or not.

There is a group of girls from camp Mystic in Texas who all pledged xo last year.

Longhorn and Waldemar girls in kd, Ddd, kappa & pi phi.

Who says Texas camps don't count?

Connections are connections.

Girls from the southeast don't forget camp Desoto. Lots of xo and DDD girls and a couple of DG. Not sure about the rest of the sororities

Not going to camp could put you at a disadvantage because you'll have fewer connections, not because you didn't go to camp. But there are a million other ways you can make connections for rush- from high school, church, NCL or other extracurriculars that cross high schools, family friends, etc.

If you have zero connections, it's probably going to be rough. Prepare to be cut from most top/ top middle houses unless you make an amazing first impression when you get to campus in the fall, or unless you're drop-dead gorgeous with a perfect resume and recs.

Nobody is going to look at your resume and say you can't have a bid because you didn't go to camp.

The rush team may see that a girl attended... say...camp Waldemar. She won't get a bid because she attended Waldemar, but the rush team may see that as evidence that she comes from a good family and perhaps give her a second look.

The camps mentioned above are pretty exclusive and girls attend the same sessions every summer and live with the same girls in their cabins every summer. Chances are, they don't know as many girls as one would think. Sure they are super close with the girls in their cabins, and know girls in their age groups (or close to their age groups), but honestly I attended two of the camps mentioned in a post above and didn't know any active's in any of the sororities when I went through recruitment. Most of the connections I had were gained through prominent alumni introductions.

Alumni pull the strings and control the rush teams. Best way to get a bid to one of the top six sororities will be through alumni connections.
