It really doesn't matter what dorm hall you are living in... It probably will come up during rush just for the sake of conversation but no one is going to cut you because you don't live in Martin.

Okay so I believed this coming from out of state my freshman year. I signed up to live in Martin because I believed it was the most social and would help me make connections. This is NOT true if you don't know any of the girls who will also be living in the building. Martin hall is very much so an extension of high school for some girls and it can hard to break into those groups without knowing them

if you are from MS/TN/GA then martin would be a good choice for you. but if you're from anywhere OOS, choose crosby!! a lot of girls come to martin with a whole boat load of their hs friends. if you're not 10000% going to be a chi o, tri delt or kd, then maybe choose another dorm..

Well over half my floor in Martin was Texas girls. The other half was a mix of girls from all over the south, even a few from the north.

We all pledged different sororities. We all remain friends today.

Because of how they open up floors and assign room pick times, I'm convinced that they put Mississippi girls on certain floors and Memphis girls on other floors and everybody else is mixed on other floors.

Behind the scene, I know many many girls get special permission to pick rooms early.

I have always heard that people get to pick earlier and even move in earlier without taking summer classes. They post their decorated rooms on private stories two weeks before move in day. There was a rumor last year that they pay $100 a day to get in early.

it looked down upon if we live in contemporary dorms? This is probably a really stupid question but it's an honest concern of mine. I really don't know if I want to have community bathrooms but I really want to make a lot of friends in my dorm but I don't want to be with a lot of girls from my town. Will I feel left out if I don't live in martin?

I'm a freshman this year and live in contemporary. I have never felt left out. I have friends in pretty much every dorm, and it also did not affect my rush whatsoever.

I have heard a lot of people are going to contemporary this year because of the bathroom situation In Martin and talk about mold and construction in Cosby.

dorm does not matter. As an upcoming sophomore who just left the dorms and an active in a sorority, it does not make a difference. There is girls from every sorority in every dorm

Is it hard to get Martin if your access time is later than a lot of people?

I couldn't get a spot in martin so I lived in Crosby and loved it. martin is definitely preferable, but Crosby is quite similar. the only downside is it isn't next to Stockard and there aren't corner rooms. I do think Crosby has a better community vibe than martin. both are great if u are rushing because you'll be around tons of ur sisters either way. and you'll have the opportunity to meet tons of other girls before rush. although the other dorms are nicer, I don't recommend them socially because there isn't much socializing in them.

I feel like a lot of OOS girls think that living in Martin is going to magically transform them into a Mississippi girl with legacy status and in house connections. It isn’t.

Rush is earlier this year so most of your friendships will come from your pledge class not your dorm like has been the case the last few classes.

If you don’t have in house connections and you aren’t a legacy you need good grades and a good personality-also not something your dorm is going to give you.

You might want to contemplate during quarantine what makes you think any OOS student would want to magically transform into a "Mississippi girl, with legacy status and in house connections."

Didn't even submit recs for the Mississippi sororities and wouldn't have dreamed about paying these mean posters' houses' dues - out of respect for their expressed desire to be left alone.

Think for yourselves.
