sorority rush

by:

Hi,
I'm a high school senior seriously considering going to Indiana in the fall but I heard Indiana's Rush is incredibly hard/competitive and barely anyone gets a bid. Is this true? What are my chances at getting in a house?

Don't come here if you have your heart set on being in a sorority. It is every bit as bad as you've heard. No other school does recruitment the way we do. Pick any other school of sorority life is important to you.

I've watched the % of successful women in rush increase a little over the years but if you have your heart set on a Greek life then probably think about a place like DePauw where Greek Life was recently rated #1 by Princeton Review. You are not guaranteed a spot in a sorority here at IU, even if your mother lived in the house, was President, etc.

If you're hot and know girls here in sororities, you've come to the right place, otherwise, you're rolling the dice.

Well just looking at greek ranks IU page I would suggest going somewhere were greek life isn't materialistic. But if you're a fake hoe then climb aboard.

Don't come here. Recruitment is a horrible experience for many women who would have no problems at most schools - even other Big 10 schools.

If you have your heart set on being in a sorority with a chapter house, go to Purdue instead.

Oh my god you all act like recruitment is the end of the world. Yeah it's a few long days, but if you stay positive and keep an open mind you're bound to find the place you belong. In fact, only about 50? Ish girls didn't get a bid this year out of like 1,600 girls that signed up for recruitment. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's accurate

But if you don't join the "right" chapter, you will be treated poorly your entire time here, because of the letters on your chest, not because of who you are.

Yup. If you aren't in a mid tier or top tier house, you are better off being unaffiliated. That's just how it is here.

You're never better being unaffiliated. My chapter doesn't have a house. Sure, I think it would be cool if we did, but we don't and guess what - I still love them. My sisters are there for me, they are my best friends and my biggest cheerleaders. Can't imagine Little 5 without my sisters!

Yeah but what about the 600 girls that dropped because they didn't get back any housed chapters at 9 or 3 party?? There is a bad stigma towards the unhoused chapters here it's sad and not saying they have great girls cause they do but that's just the way it is here.

It's the way it is because people like you always have to point it out and say it's a stigma. If the sisters in those chapters don't let it bother them, why are you letting it bother you to the point that you have to comment about it on GR? Let's all live and let live and just support Greek Life. Seriously, women need to support women and Greeks need to support Greeks. WE are more the same than we are different.

You guys are my idols. I'm in a lower house too and I've considered dropping because of everything that people have said. I'm a freshman so I haven't experienced much but thanks for telling me to stick through:)

I'm a senior now and most my older friends from high school got bids to top tier sororities this past year as freshman at IU. A couple I definitely expected but several I was surprised by. Some of the girls had low GPA's and aren't insanely beautiful or anything and are tri delts or chi o's (both considered top tier). They all said personality is key but obviously being pretty, having connections, and good grades will help you
