A legacy SHOULD BE INVITED TO ALL PARTIES UP TO PREFERENCE, or at least two invitational rounds. If she is invited to preference, she MUST appear on the first bid list.

Congratulations, you're in!

it depends on the sorority but almost all of them have a rule where legacies that make it to pref round will be on the first bid list. but you can just google the sorority and "legacy policy" and it will tell you!

It also depends on what the organization calls a legacy. AXiD counts aunt/niece as a legacy while some chapters are just step/mom or step/sister. You need to find out what the chapter policy is.

What about AEPhi?

It depends how many legacies they have --- a chapter may have more legacies then they have available spots in a pledge class. Nobody on this site is going to know exactly how many legacies each chapter had this year, but most have upwards of 60-90. You should just try to relax and wait for tomorrow!

I am a Zeta legacy and went to the Zeta legacy dinner and there were about 20 of us. 60-90 seems extreme.

If a sorority is one that requires legacies who are invited to pref get placed on the first bid list, they will not invite more legacies to preference than they can give a bid to. This is why there are final big legacy cuts right before preference. Also remember that not every legacy wants her legacy house and will make it her number one choice. If those legacies choose another house first or second and they are on the first bid lists of those houses, she gets those first.

My cousin goes to Texas, was a legacy at Kappa and went to pref....she put kappa 1 and got her second choice. I don't know all the rules, but that actually happened..

That's not possible. If you make it to pref at Kappa and are a legacy, you are on first bid list.

IT can happen if she is not properly marked as a legacy, with by Panhel or the chapter, especially at a large school.

It can also happen when a legacy doesn't REALLY list her mother's sorority first. PNM goes to Kappa and her Favorite. She lists Favorite first, but tells her mom that she listed Kappa first because she can't handle telling her mom that she really isn't that into Kappa. She is on the first bid list for Favorite and matches. PNM ells her mom that she doesn't know what happened, but she is happy with her bid.

I agree with "Possible". It could happen that she wasn't adequately counted as a legacy. Let me tell you from being in the back room for MANY years now, there are so many pnms who have some sort of connection to a sorority-- they could be sorted into a few main piles (and you can be in multiple piles); and it can get quite confusing because there are a LOT of girls with some true legacy or else just a sponsor form from another relative or friend:
1. pnm whose real sister lives in the current house at IU
2. pnm whose mother once lived in this house at IU
3. pnm whose grandmother once lived in this house at IU
4. pnm whose stepmom once lived in this house at IU
5. pnm whose real sister is in sorority at another school currently
6. pnm whose mother was in sorority at another school
7. pnm whose grandmother was in sorority at another school
8. pnm whose stepmom was in sorority at another school
[ALL ABOVE ARE true 'legacies']
Then you just have the sponsor forms- and these are not technically legacies:
9. pnm whose cousin, other relative is in this house at IU
10. pnm whose cousin, aunt, other relative was in this hose at IU
11. pnm whose cousin, aunt, other relative, is/was in sorority at another school
12. pnm whose family close friend is/was in sorority at IU
13. pnm whose family close friend is/was in sorority at another school

Then you have ties to nationals- I don't want to go into this too much but some national connections really count.
