pref round

by:

how common/uncommon is it for a chapter to invite you to pref round and then not give you a bid? i know that obviously you shouldn't feel comfortable that youre getting a bid somewhere just because they invited you to pref, but i was just wondering how common it is?

Just don't count on a bid here. Weigh your choices and try to determine which house you stand the best chance with, which might not necessarily be the one you hope to receive a bid from.

You should rank them in the order you prefer them. Bid matching is the only time pnms' preferences have more weight than the chapters'. If you rank Chapters A, B, C in that order and chapter C has you on their first bid list, that spot will stay open for you if A,B fill before their lists get to your name. If you get picked up by A or B then the C spot will open up for the next name in their list. If A and B fill before getting to you then you will get a bid from C. Most sisters do not understand how bid matching works and they will tell you you can get cross- cut. You can't. It's a great theory but, There is no such thing as cross- cutting.

That's not how things work at IU. Now mind your own business and stop giving bad advice.

Here are the stats for most recent years for those that made it to preference with at least one party to attend:

2015
• 1,234 women participated in bid matching (after at least one preference)
• 1,104 of those received bids
• 130 of those didn't receive bids (11%)

2014
• 1,319 women participated in bid matching (after at least one preference)
• 1,002 of those received bids
• 317 of those didn't receive bids (24%)

2013
• 1,160 participated in bid matching (after at least one preference)
• 1,025 of those received bids
• 146 of those did not receive bids (13%)

2012
• 1,086 participated in bid matching (after at least one preference)
• 890 of those received bids
• 252 of those did not receive bids (23%)

I didn't say she'd get a bid. Only that if she's on a chapter's FIRST bid list for someone she doesn't get pushed off it because she listed someone else first. Get a grip. You are one of those who don't understand bid matching.

The likelihood someone's on any first list is low. So if you're not on anyone's first list then you're not getting a bid unlike at other schools.

Yes. I bet all those PNMs in the last line in all those years thought they were on first bid lists too

I went to three houses for pref, ranked all of them, and didn't get a bid. Nothing is guaranteed.

I'm so sorry! That's horrible but it sadly happens to a lot of PNM's every year. PNM's need to know this is a reality and to be open and loving to everyone they have left because there are a lot of girls like you out there. :(

Thus this is the reason to stop the bed quota and bring more then 50 girls into a house. Huh!

Not all of us feel that way. We think it should be changed but once people get in, it's not as important to them anymore. Our alumnae are very much against changing it. I think they are the biggest obstacle.
