TPA lands in the bottom simply by virtue of the fact that they are new. They had a great recruitment and we need more chapters to accommodate PNM's so let's be supportive. Alpha Sig is starting to recruit for their colony....

is never going to be anything besides an off-campus, bottom tier sorority so keep dreaming and stop self-promoting your house.

There has been talk about the importance of the strength of the chapters. I did research on this and will present it here for other PNMs to review. I hope it helps. Houses were ranked according to date chapter began, min gpa requirement, years in panhell,#of members,# of chapters,parents/colleges rank, Ed in Review Rank, and GR of national sororities. This is a national rating only. It will have little bearing on how we feel about the houses here at IU but it will give everyone a little knowledge. IU has many very strong Greek chapters so we will know there is money behind the houses. That is important which is why I thought investigating each house's national reputation was worthwhile. See the rankings listed above.

1. Alpha Ph 23 points
2. Pi Phi/ DG 21
3. KKG 20
4. Tridelt/Chio/DZ 19
5. Gamma Phi 17
6. ZTA/AXO/Theta 16
7. Aopi 15
8. KD 14
9. Phi Mu 13
10. ADPi 12
11.AZD 10
12.AGD 9
13. Aephi 5
14.SDT 4

I hope this is useful for everyone who goes through recruitement although I have heard that Theta and Kappa are not very well liked at IU. I haven't had any personal dealings with Theta but I can confirm about Kappa. I have siblings at IU who have told me things in addition to what I've observed at parties at home from girls who are Kappas. The way girls behave outside their chapters leave lasting memories.
I also realize the ranking on GR at IU focuses on that chapter only.

Just to clarify: IU has strong national chapters and for that we should be pleased. Now, the hard part is finding the fit within the houses. There are going to be some we all LOVE and some we don't, unfortunately.

supports the belief that more women should have the opportunity to have a wonderful Greek experience. There was an abysmal placement rate this year. IU still uses "bed quota" and the result is the toughest recruitment in the nation-and not something to be satisfied with. For PNM's out there: not receiving a bid is in NO way a reflection of who you are;what it does reveal is that this is a system that needs to change. New chapters will help simply because there will be more slots for interested women, and solutions are continually discussed at both the national and local level. This is a tough process--keep an open mind about ALL the chapters, andb know that most of us are pulling for you...

Won't be long before we start going to the sorority parties in the fall!

My favorite houses are---------
Pi Phi, Alpha Phi, Delta Delta Delta, ZTA, and Chi Omega. I know someone in each house!

I'm keeping an open mind about DZ, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Xi Delta and AXO. I know I would fit in any of those houses. Not sure about the others but I'll try to get an invite to most of the houses for pre rush. All my friends told me that's so important because they get to know you better and you get to know them. My sister was able to sort through the houses she liked best in the fall and it made it so much easier for her in January. I don't appreciate the person below trying to scare us. I know it's not that way at all. Most of us WILL pledge a house next year.

It will be the second time for me. Legacy, recs friends, girls pulling for me, the whole nine yards--it still did not work out--and believe me, I was shocked! Many times girls are just unlucky in the numbers game. I received 14 invites, then 8, then 3, then...nothing. It happened A LOT last year--the Rho Gams were as devastated as the PNMs. Do not kid yourself--it is brutal. I leaned you absolutely have to have an open mind--I am hoping for a better outcome this year--but as a sophomore, my odds are not good. Best of luck to everyone!!!!!

Can you please explain how you came up with the points? How did Alpha Phi get 23 points and Pi Phi, DG get 21 points? And Kappa? How did they get 20? DG and Kappa surprise me.

I had a similar situation. I was released after 14 party from my legacy house and I was crushed. I had only 1 house for pref and did not get a bid. I went through as a soh and they took me the second tome but I know I would have been happy in multiple houses. Our pledge class last year actually had quite a few sophomores, so hang in there. Also Alpha Sigs are colonizing and it might be cool to be a charter member. Unfortunately IU is not allowing Greek housing expansion right now, but many schools have Greeks who have dorm housing. It is an option for sophmores to consider. Good Luck!!
