The same houses that you dropped because you didn’t want. You aren’t gonna be an aphi through COB unless they’ve already reached out + you have hella connections.

Either give the bottom houses a chance or realize Greek life isn’t for you. Those are kinda your options.

More chances in fall because graduations open up spots. In formal rush the houses are focusing on freshmen pretty much only.

Ignore pretty much everything else people said on this thread lol. Informal and COB are basically just a numbers system! It all depends on nationals and how many girls they want their chapter to bring in. Meaning if a chapter has 80 spots, and then 10 people drop, they will be looking for 10 informal girls more or less. There is an equal chance id say in both the fall and spring because in the spring its about who drops or who won't be living in the house, and in the fall its more about whos graduated and whos still looking for a decent sized informal class to match their nationals. I was part of a PC of 16 informal girls through the fall, some of the chapters that participated were AOPi, ADPi, AGD, SDT, etc. So no, you do not need to accept "bottom houses" and no, this does not have to be the end of your greek journey. If you go through informal, I wish you the best of luck!! I found a chapter who I didn't even get back for open invite during my formal recruitment and now I call the women their my sisters. Informal is a fantastic oppurtunity, while yes there are less spots, I would say you still have a good chance of getting in just based on the women you talk to and the conversations you have. ALSO, whoever said informal is only freshman is straight out lying lol, my informal class was all sophomores and even a couple juniors. It's never too late to find your sisterhood!

NO NO NO. This is really ignorant about nationals deciding how many members a chapter can have. Nationals don't and can't do that by NPC rules. The sororities have to abide by the CHAPTER TOTAL set by IU Panhellenic, which is the maximum number of members every chapter on campus cannot go over. It is revised every year and is the same for every chapter. Any chapter below that number can COB to get up to Chapter Total but can't go over that number. The purpose is to create and maintain equity among the chapter memberships.

A chapter's nationals can encourage them to take up to Chapter Total but no chapter can go over it.

Also members not living in house are still in the chapter membership and count toward their Chapter Total, so if a chapter needs to fill their house, they can't just add members if they are already at Total.

Members graduate, change schools, drop out, or sometimes don't have the recruitment numbers, and this will take a chapter below Chapter Total. They can COB up to that number if they wish. Chapter Total is adjusted by Panhellenic after formal recruitment and takes into account the new member class sizes and the relative chapter sizes of all the sororities.

So do u know where and when informal info will be posted? The Panhellenic ladies on the phone dont know if you need a form or not or when website will be updated regarding informal or if you should just look into each house Instagram individually. Do you know the norm here. It’s frustrating not getting a straight answer

It is COB (Continuous Open Bidding) and it is handled by each sorority individually, not organized by panhellenic. I emphasize COB because calling it 'informal' is misleading, as if it's a secondary rush, which it is NOT. It's just chapters under Total offering bids, or not.

There are a few more things people need to understand about COB:

First, chapters don't have to announce they are going to COB or tell panhellenic ahead of time; if they are eligible they just offer bids and then register their new members with panhellenic.
Second, the larger chapters do not need to actively recruit for COB because they either are at Total or are only a very few under, and already know who they want. There are almost always more girls wanting a bid or who they want to bid than these chapters can even take. Unless you are friends with members (not brand new members, they have no vote and no influence) you are not a candidate for a COB in a larger chapter this semester. The smaller chapters will be under Total so those are your options and are more likely to be actively recruiting now and farther into the semester. Check them out.
Third, right after recruitment is when chapters mostly COB. They know then if they are under Total and want to bring new members in together, not string it out over the entire semester. Any chapter under Total can offer a COB at any time, but it's better if possible to bring new members in together in a class. Smaller chapters can be more open to COB whenever to fill more spots.

It is up to YOU to follow the houses, ask sorority members you know from class, dorms, friends of friends, etc. For the smaller houses you should reach out personally to the chapter president or whatever chair person they are putting out there. ALSO, you can get a bid in the fall through COB too but you've got to know people.

Who knows where and when informal rush information be out? Very hard to get a straight answer or any answer from Panhellenic - website not updated- can’t tell you if you do or don’t need a form - which houses participating… does anyone know the protocol

If a house is doing open informal it’ll be posted on their instagram. If they are doing invite only it won’t be posted but you would’ve heard by now. Best bet is to text someone you know in a house you’re interested and ask.
