You are going to have to live in at least 1 year in every housed chapter at IU. Some require two years live in. Last year there were record breaking big new member classes so some sophomores in some houses did live out but you shouldn't count on that. This is a requirement of sorority life and one of the best parts of it imo

The last thing you want to do as a PNM is go into a new house and start asking for special treatment. Live in requirements build sisterhood. If you don't want to live in and aren't willing to break your lease, drop now and don't take spots from girls who actually want to be here

hey girl a lot of the houses are understanding and cannot drop you because of a lease!! don’t mention it (some people are bias and could drop you) but you should be fine. I’m a sophomore & live out and just make time for both groups!! come to the house to hang out with friends and spend time with ur roommates :)

Without live in requirements the sororities couldn't afford the houses; they have to keep them full. When you join a sorority you have to pull your weight and follow the rules and meet financial expectations. "Rules for thee but not for me" doesn't fly in Greek life, it only works when everyone participates. If you want to do your own thing you can do that all by yourself but not as a member.

They can totally kick you for that if it's requirement and they otherwise can't fill their house.
