tiers

I feel like when we rank the chapters we just rank them the way we were told/the way we heard from others.
But what actually makes the differences? The tier system is something I legit never understood.
No hate please I just really want to know if there's an actual reason. All chapters have good looking people, some (at least a few) bad looking people, rude, smart, dumb, nice, rich, and not-so-rich people.
I'm in a "middle tier" house so we pair with frats "higher" than us occasionally and "lower" than us occasionally, but I've had fun at both ends. What specifically determines the ranks aside from historically being dubbed as a "top"/"middle"/"bottom&qu ot; house?

for the most part every house can be somewhat accurately summed up with a certain stereotype even if it isn't 100% true
top sororities have more hot girls / connections
top fraternities have generally better looking guys or guys with Indy or Chicago burbs connections
thats just how it works

Yeah it sucks but by discussing tiers we fuel the fire. Once PNMs think that chapter XYZ is top tier, they all want to pledge xyz. This means xyz has a lot more to choose from, so in theory their pledge class should be "better" than the others. On the flip side, this often means they get pledge classes full of superficial people with nothing more in common than vanity and a desperate need for social acceptance. In other words: you will be a lot happier in the long run if you pledge where you feel comfortable regardless of tiers. (Btw I'm not saying all top tier houses are like that; just a generalization.)

it's basically just history. you're right. a lot of frat parties are the same. and a lot of sororities have really nice girls, but the rankings are rankings because someone said so.
it's that easy.
we weren't around when someone decided a top house was top house. we were just told who is where in the order.
it does suck because it stops our greek system from meeting new people but unfortunately that's how it is.

Your the worst. It's people like you that suck. Your that terrible person who judges and and gives people dirty looks when friend say he is in "below mid tier" frat. Your the person who judges and writes people off based on what house they are in. Your the worst type of person.
Could not disagree with this fallacy more. Just pure fallacy.
