That's not really true any more, a lot of houses are getting pressure from their nationals and initiating before the end of the semester. This doesn't actually mean anything, they just call the former pledges "junior initiates" or w/e and they're basically still pledges.

most houses wait to initiate their pledges until right before the next rush period starts or at the end of that rush period. That way there are always pledges. Any house that doesn't do this isn't really worth your time

umm, most do not... maybe the bottom tier houses but almost all of the decent houses have you pledging well into the following semester...
I think Kappa Sig is one of the few ones that initiates within the semester
