Hey guys , I'm an incoming freshman at IU and I was approached by someone on fb from sigma alpha mu and was wondering about their reputation- what is it ? Like how well liked, parties involvement and academics. Thanks

Doesn't matter. Go there during welcome week (which they probably invited you too) and see for yourself! Really, this is a decision that will completely change your next four years, try to avoid any outside influence on this decision. Just go into rush with an open mind, go into welcome week with an open mind, meet people, get ready to ask some questions (preferably not the ones you just asked) and you'll be fine. Just make your own opinions, not random people on the Internet.

why not just go find out yourself instead of coming to a site known for bashing on other chapters/a site known for only focusing on ranks?

you'll find out once rush starts when you go to their parties. so just chill and you'll see...

They're a great house, better than EX, Beta, FIJI or any of the other "top houses". I have tons more fun at this place than the "top tier" fraternities so definitely give it a shot.

Neither of the above posters are wrong. It's all different for different people. Go there and see for yourself. I don't think many would say it's a bottom tier fraternity though, definitely at least a little respected

this site or any site will not help. YOU have to make your own decisions. Don't go into this with someone else's thoughts/opinions.

wrong post buddy.

but to answer this poster's question: it's all about preference. Some people love it, some people are indifferent, and some people aren't fans. I personally love going to sammys to party. Once you chat with them in person and figure out the vibe, you'll decide for your own! Hope it works out for you!

It is an important choice that will affect you entire college life. My advice would be to check out as many houses that you can. But at the end of the day, fraternities without a house can't offer half of the benefits.
