Is it better to be in a bottom tier and/or unhoused sorority or to stay a GDI?

if all you care about is status and what other people will think of you for being in a bottom tier house/unhoused chapter, then you shouldn't be rushing.

I would choose being a part of the IU Greek system regardless of tier any day. I know rankings seem like the most important thing in the world when you're going through recruitment but honestly once you get into a chapter you'll be too busy having fun with your new sisters and making memories to care much about where you're "ranked".

if you care that much about status, PLEASE do yourself a favor and don't rush.

that is a terrible thing to focus on. The greek system has strong qualities all across the board. On campus AND off campus.

There are nice and fun girls in EVERY chapter, and there are not-so-nice girls in EVERY chapter. IF (yes. If.) you get asked back from houses, you will realize where you mesh well.

There's no right way to go through recruitment if you have your mind made up before it all. Trust me. Most of the reputations the houses had that I had heard went out the window for me during rush.

The house I am in for some reason is known for having catty girls, but it's totally the opposite. I love my sisters! Predetermined lists won't work!

Focus on getting a bid, period, to a sorority. All have good and bad points. GDI is not the way to go at this school. There are many benefits to being Greek. Don't worry about tiers.

I wouldn't listen to @Mary jean.
The greek system is definitely not for everyone! Some of my really good friends decided not to rush at all. They still party and go out with my house though. It's not like greeks ONLY talk to greeks.

Yeah there are benefits to being greek, but that doesn't mean there aren't benefits to being independent. I'm sure I would have a lot more freedom if I hadn't rushed. I could choose WHEN to eat, WHAT to eat, who I want over and when, I could go to any party I wanted when they open, etc. I'm so glad I rushed, but there are advantages and disadvantages to both sides.

I say go ahead and rush! if you dont like it, then drop! no harm.

you realize you could do all of the things you listed if you’re in an unhoused chapter right? There’s no rules if you live in an apartment because it’s your own lease and property
