stop with the ranking, please
by: IU Greek LifeOk...when can we get passed the ranking of the different houses? It is well known that IU has one of the most difficult recruitments out there. Just getting a bid from a house is an accomplishment in itself. Every PNM should be ecstatic they were able to get a bid and not be concerned if it’s “top” tier house. The PNM’s are as diverse as are the different chapters. What’s perfect fit for one PNM may not be for someone else. Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not every chapter is perfect and there is not a top chapter that fits everyone. As women, we should empower women and not try and to compete with the silly ranking.

The reason why ~2,000 girls sign up and ~1,100 get bids is bc people on here need to put out a new ranking 5 times a week where they’ve switched 2 or 3 houses. Freshman and geeds will never be able to fully grasp the tier system no matter how many times people in houses says top doesn’t mean good or bad and bottom doesn’t mean good or bad it just means top and bottom so I’m not sure why the people on here feel the need to make that worse by posting a new ranking almost every single day that says almost the exact same thing as the last ranking. All you’re doing is making it so less girls join houses and That leads to the Greek community being significantly smaller than it could be. IMO the more the merrier when it comes to the amount of people in Greek life! If you want to be in a house but tier is what’s stopping you (whether you want to do informal or formal) then you’re creating problems that aren’t there! Put yourself out there get to know girls in all different tiers and houses because that is what being greek is all about

Anyone thinking about recruitment, ignore all the ranking posts. Go in with an open mind and enjoy yourself. Look at the girls coming back, the girls standing outside in line with you. Those are the girls that might be in your pledge class. Every house is putting on a very practiced show for you. You can be the most beautiful girl and think you have to be in a “top tier” house, only to realize you aren’t like those girls at all.
Remember these rankings are only self proclaimed. IU andPanhellenic have never put out a ranked list of houses! What’s great for one person isn’t what’s great for the next.

Panhel and SLL do publish lists of who is top and bottom academically. Objective vs. subjective takes a different perspective. Interestingly, the "middle tier" based on social rank is consistently TOP of the academic rank. The "top tier" of the social rank is dead last academically. Sure, every one has their own opinion of what is "best". Chapters known for strong academics like AOPi, ADPi and Theta may not be considered hard partiers but if your focus is graduating with honors that may be more important to you than joining a chapter like Pi Phi or Alpha Phi who bring up the bottom of the academic ranks. They are making their way through IU regularly drunk and happy, considered "top tier" but not for everyone. You have to decide what you value.
