legacy
by: questionHow much is legacy factored in when fraternities are determining who to give a bid to?

If you’re an IU legacy it will almost definitely get you special consideration and if the brothers also think you’re cool you’ll probably get a bid. Nothing guaranteed but it definitely doesn’t hurt to be a legacy in general. When there are hundreds of guys in and out of the house during rush being a legacy does help you stand out a little but you’ll also have to be clearly not a total goob or it honestly won’t help that much.

How much of a legacy? If they are legacies at a house at a diffferent school than IU it means nothing and if they are grandparents or outside your immediate family they will have little impact as well. The best way is to have an older brother in the house already or if your dad was an influential member of the house but even then it’s just a foot in the door. It’s no secret every house takes a few goober legacy bids every year but those kids are usually still smart and good for the house.
