phi psi
by: ?I am in incoming freshman and Kelley DA and my older brother was a phi psi here but graduated a year before they got kicked off. He told me how much he loved being a phi psi and from rankings on this website I can see that they’re back but I rarely ever see opinions about them. If I’m trying to get the full Greek experience would rushing a fraternity like phi psi be a good option even though they’re off campus? Any help would be great!

they honesty seem pretty cool based on who I've met. obviously any establishing frat is going to have their share of gooby guys to boost gpa and involvement but phi psi also has a good amount of more fratty guys too. They'll have dope pretty much new house by the time you'd live in too. At the least worth checking out for a pretty much guaranteed bid

Okay I’m going to give it to you straight, Phi Psi will never live up to what it was for your brother within the next four years, although they’re a great group of dudes from the ones I know and once they get the numbers to reclaim the house from SK then they will recruit much better. Going from kicked off to climbing back up is simply hard, it took Acacia a little bit to climb again but they’re solidly back in the middle. If you want a true fraternity experience like your brother had I would recommend choosing somewhere else but if you want to help rebuild and be a part of the same fraternity nationally it would be fun, just at the sake of a better social scene and slightly goobier house.

At the end of the day, any house is the house you decide to make it. There aren’t many opinions of phi psi’s they stay pretty low key. A couple of my buddies are in phi psi and they tell me that they are just worrying about getting that charter back and then they’ll focus on trying to make social moves.

Among unhoused fraternities, phi psi has risen above them all in a matter of two months. And they already have had events with houses sororities Which is impressive cause they stared this year. Phi psi now may not be the same house socially your brother was in but there is no doubt they have a bright future ahead of them.

I think you should at least consider it. Phi Psi was once a very strong house at IU and has quite a bit of alumni support. Granted, while they are off campus, you won't have the same experience in the chapter that your brother had. However, once they get back into their new house, I would think they would recover very quickly.
Nearly every fraternity at IU has been suspended at some point in recent years. There are really two things that determine if and how quickly they recover. First, the guys selected to start the organization back up. Phi Psi has a bit of a mixed bag there. Second, the quality of their house. Chapters with great houses typically recover quickly. My cousins were both Betas before and after they were suspended. Beta was a top house when they were suspended and were considered a top house again the first year they moved into their current place. I think Phi Psis house will be a big help getting the chapter to recover.

Although you need to consider that at first many unhoused fraternities get some pairs with housed sororities. I won't say which fraternity I'm in, but when we first started, we had pairs with a few different housed sororities, but after a year or so we ended up falling into our place in the tier system. The thing that phi psi does have going for them though is the potentially guaranteed house, assuming they get their charter first.
