Why are people saying rush was such a disaster this year compared to prior years?

It's only one person who keeps pretending to be a lot of people. It's not true.

Only a little over half the girl she who signed up for rush are going to receive bids tonight because of how harsh the cuts were this year and the amount of girls who dropped during the process. A lot of houses will have to pick up at least a few girls if they want to stay financially on track. Whether they do that through snap bids, COB, or simply choose to accept a small pc is up to each house individually

It's a transition, but not a disaster.

A disaster was 4 years ago, when IU closed school due to the weather and the rounds went from 21 party, to 12 party, to 3 party aka preference. Over 50% of the girls that rushed did not receive a bid. Pledge classes had no "minimums" yet, so they would take 30 to 40 girls per chapter. One chapter took almost all legacies. So many of the personalities of the chapters changed, because they had even less time to meet new girls and relied on recruiting friends, which wasn't the best for that house. TERRIBLE Year.

This is Panhel trying to make adjustments so that way more girls get bids. Dropping from three to two as your preferences meant that you had a higher chance of getting a bid or being a quota addition, and not going to three houses and getting nothing because QA's weren't a thing. Obviously, that's not exactly working out for everyone, but that's the idea.

This pushes for informal to happen to more chapters. They're not all going to hit quota with such a limitation, so many will have to do informal in some shape or form. Most schools have it where informal, while still smaller than formal, is a much more accepted part of recruitment and not looked down upon as it is here. Panhel is trying to change that.

For many the best year to rush was last year, which is why when you compare the years, people are saying it sucks this year. There aren't three houses (SK, AGD, and ZTA) needing to recruit 80 girls anymore to fill their houses. There is now a minimum of 50 for every house.

So many girls got the opportunity to go greek that it was out of the norm. You'll find that more houses will do COB this year. If you have friends that don't get bids, encourage them to do informal. Hopefully there will be some more houses that do it this year than you think.

QA's are great but the way it was done this year is terrible. Some houses won't do it and it caused some other houses to make harsher cuts and raise gpa requirements. No other schools makes cuts like IU. If this were almost any other school almost no one would get less than 8-9 houses back at 16 party and we all know that this is far from the case at IU
