really wanted a house now what?
by: Realconfused
Things went pretty well for me and then it just tanked at the end. I did not get any houses back pref night that I could see myself in. By that I mean they did not have housing opportunities on campus.
I now wonder what IU would be like as a GDI? Here are my questions.
Should I go to any informal rush events with friends if there are any?
I am from out of state and I didn't know a lot of new members, I had rec letters and all but was that enough?
A few girls from my high school were pi phi and kappa but i was cut from both.
Just wondering wnat houses are honelty looking for? I am tall attractive with long hair and nice face and body.
I hear indiana can be hard when your not in a house. Sometimes I think about transfering I just feel I wish I would have know more about the system but I guess its too late.

Seems like most posts don't put enough emphasis on conversational skills for oos girls with no in-house connections...that is incredibly important when you only have a certain amount of time to be memorable/remarkably unique when there's a bazillion of other pretty girls going thru rush too. Unfortunately the conversations u had may have just been boring compared the other pnms spoken to. Sure they will know of you beforehand from recs but that's not enough being oos. Get involved with clubs/orgs on campus that have a large Greek presence and maybe u will have better choices left when u rerush next year.

I’m sorry that recruitment didn’t go well for you. There is always the option of going through rush as a sophomore.
Like the other poster said, I highly recommended getting involved in campus. It’s not always the case but the girls that typically have the strongest recruitment as sophomores are those that get to know various girls in sororities through involvement or athletics.
I would look at something like Dance Marathon. It tends to be a heavily Greek organization. You could get to know girls from multiple chapters through that. The other nice thing about it is that you can actually have real conversations without the formality and stiffness that sometimes comes in recruitment. Even if it doesn’t work out with rush, you will have been involved in a great organization that does some real good and will certainly make stronger friendships with new people.

It’s all based on conversations. At least for my chapter, we don’t do a lot of social media stalking and we’re mid tier but don’t rely on just your looks. If you make us remember you, you’ll be ranked high. We’re looking for girls who aspire to be someone, know what being in a sorority means (I hate it when girls tell me they want to be in a sorority to party or meet their future bridesmaids or some bs like that. Inspire me. Tell me you want to learn from your closest friends, or that you want to be part of an organization that changes you for the better), and girls who respect others and respect themselves. It’s all about the conversation.

You know what it’s like as a GDI cause that was your first semester. Sororities are fun and a great way to meet people but they are not everything. You don’t need a sorority to know your worth, have fun, or make friends! You’re amazing on your own as it is! Don’t transfer because of Greek life. School is meant for an education not Greek life

If you're social you can have more fun as a gdi than in a house. You just need to put yourself out there and be yourself. You can get down about this if you want to have fun. As a girl you will get into all the parties too :) Being a gdi as a girl will be so fun as long as you can handle yourself socially. I wouldn't transfer over something like this! If you have friends in houses you can go out with them, AND you can go to parties with gdi girls as well. You can also rush next year too. Don't listen to people's negativity. You can have a fun af semester
