dropping after getting a bid and rushing as a soph
by: stressedthe recruitment process hasn't been the best for me. however, I've tried to keep an open mind and went ahead and preffed in order to give the chapter I have left a chance. if I were to get a bid and decide it's not right for me and drop, will this negatively affect me if I decide to rush again next year? like I said I'm trying to keep an open mind but I'm also trying to think realistically. thanks

As someone who rushed their sophomore and freshman years, you’d be better off going through informal in the fall, which will be universally organized by PHA this year, because the houses doing informal are probably the ones you’ll get back in your later rounds of formal. This is unless you have a specific friend who really pulls for you. Remember the rule, not the exception.

Thank god someone said it. Yes we all know that one girl who got into a top house as a sophomore but this is highly uncommon especially when you look at the amount of sophomores who rush. Anyone on here telling you anything different is a geed who thinks they’re the exception to that rule. If you were the exception you’d already know bc just about the only way for that to happen is if you have a lot of good friends in the house who you know will pull for you.
I would agree that fall informal is the move for sophomores but as a geed it can be nearly impossible to understand the tier system even when you know plenty of dope girls in bottom tier houses like we all do. If you’re a sophomore geed who can’t get over the tier system that’s fine you can try your luck in formal recruitment there’s nothing wrong with wanting to give every house a chance but you should bear in mind that top houses take very very few sophomores 0-5ish in each pc for a rough estimate while bottom tier houses often take 20-30+. So if you’re going through rush as a sophomore don’t beat yourself up about what houses you are getting back bc most other sophomores won’t be getting them back either. Besides you only need one in the end and all but two of our chapters will be housed next fall when you’d be living in.
