legacies
by: HmmAre there any houses at IU that if you are a legacy and go to pref, that you aren't offered a bid to? I have always heard, if you are a legacy and you are invited to pref they have to offer you a bid.

You would have to look up what if officially considered a legacy. Some chapters consider nieces, some don't. Some no longer consider granddaughters legacies.
Check out the chapter's website or ask your mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, etc. She should know.
So, yes there are some chapters where being a legacy doesn't hold much weight.

If your Mom is your legacy link and you go to Pref round you are in. Grandmothers, and Sisters...maybe, depends on National policy. Aunts, Cousins, etc...probably not..check policy.
Being a legacy does matter, especially so if it was your Mother. If another relative not as much.
If your Mom was a member at the Chapter you are rushing then you are a Super Legacy and that matters a lot. You are guaranteed at least 2 rounds, but if they are going to drop you they will do it then...BUT only with significant discussion internally. A big deal to drop a same Chapter legacy with Mom link.

Not in all cases. If the Mom is not an active alumna meaning involved still with the organization it may not mean crap. I friends whose mothers were in chapters at IU and they were cut. The most important legacy is a current sister in the chapter. That is the one that rarely gets cut.
AxiD and SK consider nieces legacies. This all varies from organization to organization.
