why is rush so competitive at iu
by: WhyI'm an incoming freshman and I'm just wondering, how is girls rush so competitive compared to other schools like what makes it that it is so much more competitive? Is rushing fraternities just as competitive at IU? Just wondering

It's because we have a cap on how many girls are in each PC. We have 55 girls In each PC, 22 sororities (2 unhoused), with roughly 3,000 girls entering rush. That leaves roughly 50% of the girls getting into a house. Other schools either have larger pledge classes, or a smaller amount of girls rushing, or both. Additionally, tiers are a HUGE deal for some reason at IU, more so than other schools. So, when girls go through rush and don't get a "good" sorority, they tend to drop because of how "important" tiers are viewed here, which adds to the competitiveness. At other schools, tiers aren't so important.

Honestly, you'd be lucky to get a bid anywhere here. I rushed this year, and I'll say rush at IU is getting better, but not that drastically. I'm talking about the housed sororities, too. I'm in a lower middle tier sorority, and I'm perfectly happy. Don't worry about the tiers- they're stupid and unnecessary. The houses are just super selective because of the small PC sizes.

What's considered a good "tier" to be in?
