rant!

The sorority recruitment system here sucks!! It is so unfair and every year over 500 girls don't get in a sorority. It is because they all have stupid live-in rules where you have to live in at least two years. This greatly limits the amount of girls they can take. We have one of the biggest Pan-Hel presence of any other campus, just added the 21st Pan-Hel sorority, but the thing is, sorry to say most girls do not want to be in the two w/o houses. They want to live in a pretty mansion. This problem could be solved and get more girls involved in the Greek system if the houses did optional live-ins. It works at other big schools (Wisconsin, Texas, Ole Miss). Last year over 1600 girls rushed and over 800 dropped/decativated/didn't get a bid. It is flawed! And no, I am not some angry GDI!

2 sororities need to get houses, or another needs to come on because the live in stuff probably won't change (for good reason)

Lots of the cuts/drops were girls who did not make the Gpa requirement

Having big pretty mansions to live in is NOT the norm.

Like it was said above most of the girls who are dropped from recruitment are for not meeting the GPA requirement which is VERY high for most (if not all) of the chapters.

Only 74 of last years cuts were made because of low GPAs. That's 756 girls who weren't released for grades and didn't receive a bid (not counting those who didn't meet each sorority's individual GPA standard).

Even ASA and TPA meet their max quotas. ASA has like 100 girls.\n\n\n\n\n

Many things would be different if Panhellenic wasn't afraid to initiate changes. We are the only campus in the nation that uses strict bed quota. Nebraska uses a looser modified bed quota. We are one of very few, if not the only, campuses in the nation that does not impose chapter total. Chapter total is where Panhellenic sets the maximum number of women who can be in a chapter, usually based on either the average or median chapter size. If total was 150, then those so-called elite chapters that want to have a no live-out policy and remain at 100-120 members would most likely be in trouble with their national organizations who want them to be a campus total. This would even the playing field tremendously. Yes, there would still be tiers, but the difference in these tiers would be smaller. Chapters will not change unless IU tells them they have to change in order to remain on campus. Chapters have to be recognized by the university to remain on campus.

This year was a little better in terms of cuts because of the new sorority was added. Still though about 700 girls did not get bids and while some of this was due to grades or girls dropping the fact is that there just isn't enough room for everyone unfortunately.

Amen to ^^ post. I'd be willing to bet that if chapters had to rush in campus buildings not in their chapter house and PNMs weren't told which chapter was which, some of the so-called top chapters may not fare as well as their so-called lesser chapters. In my classes, there were always some really nice cute girls in chapters and if they hadn't worn letters you would have never guessed which houses they were in.

rush doesn't make sense and would be deceiving the rushees.

Uhh ...so IU no longer uses bed quota(2012 thread) Girls hear about lower “tier” andCHOOSE !not to join. It is the people of OUR Greek organizations that bash others. So girls who are left with bottom 3 houses drop. And where do they help spread the hate? ON THIS SITE!
