dropping unhoused sororities
by: CuriousJust wondering. I heard that many people that join unhoused sororities drop before they are initiated or within a year of accepting their bid. Are unhoused sororities worth it? Since they cant host parties I heard it's like paying $600 a semester for friends, t-shirts with greek letters on the front, and mediocre pairs with fraternities.
#2by: Well...
Housed sororities don't host parties but they attend parties at fraternities that spend more money than the off campus frats. Also, girls in housed sororities pay for living in the house or a live-out fee.
Oh, and to the person that said there are two unhoused sororities. There are four. SK and TPA don't have a house, yet.
#3by: Hmm
It makes financial sense to join a housed sorority because there is much more mixing that occurs among the tiers. Lower tiered housed sororities pair up or are invited to closed parties and upper tier parties. Unhoused sororities aren't invited and they rarely pair up.
What are you paying for if you join an unhoused sorority?
#4by: Greek life>parties
There is much more to Greek life than parties. Membership gives you an opportunity to make lifelong friends, develop leadership skills, participate in fun campus events like philanthropies and Little 5, and meet other Greeks etc. In addition you will join an organization that you will be a member of for the rest of your life. To people that think it is exclusively about parties, you are shallow and are missing the point. Sure the parties are fun but hopefully you get a heck of a lot more out of it or you will just quit when you can get into bars.

one of the draws of unhoused sororities is that the housing requirement isn't there so you aren''t stuck living in the same house for 3 years. i know some jacobs girls who went unhoused specifically for this reason, because most of the greek houses are in bad locations if you are in jacobs. but they still wanted part of the greek experience. if the other houses didn't have such crazy living in requirements then there would be no reason to have unhoused sororities.

I know at least one girl in every single house on campus and the girl I know in dphie is more into her house than any other sorority girl I've met in my life including myself. If you care about tiers/being popular/etc. then no unhoused isn't for you and you will probably end up hating it or dropping but if you can see past the tier system then you can get as much out of the bottom house as you could have the top house. Greek life is going to be what you make it no matter what house you are in

If you went to lots of parties in high school, you won't be satisfied with the pairs. If you're new to the whole party scene you'll probably be fine and you should give it a try. I dropped the unhoused sororities because I went to the off campus frats my first semester and I didn't like the guys very much. I am very happy with the choice I made. Don't listen to the people who say to not drop no matter what. You can do whatever you want lol
