dropped - do i re-rush?
by: trihard
I'm a freshman that just went through rush and got a bid for a sorority.
But, going through rush I had my heart set on tri-delt. I had them all the way until pref round but then didn't get a bid from them. I got a bid from another house but I can't stop questioning myself on whether I should stick with it. I really felt a connection with tri delt and I feel like I'm just going to keep comparing myself to them and the girls in that house for the rest of my time at IU, questioning whether or not I would've been happier in tri delt.
Do I drop my current house and rush as a sophomore or is there no hope for me? I just don't really know what to do because I'm not 100% happy where I am.

If they didn't give you a bid this year, they aren't next. They take very few sophomores and most of them are friends of friends. How about you be grateful that you got a bid to any house and stop comparing yourself to them. Be happy you even got a bid, many girls don't.

Tridelt is a great sorority but not the only great one. Each house is different but special in their own way. Sorority rush is a pretty good gauge as to what kind of girl you are, and more often then not you get placed where you fit the best. Focus on fun and not what could have been.

As someone who had alpha phi throughout the whole process and then didn't receive a bid from them I was crushed. Although I ended up in an unhoused chapter I truly think I found friends for life. My advice to you would be to stick with it and give it a chance because the process works. You may have loved tri delt but in the end they felt as though you weren't a perfect fit but the house you are in now loves you so you should at least give them a chance. Plus, chances are if you rush again next year you wouldn't get a bid from tri delt either.

Disregard anyone saying you wouldn't have a chance rushing as a sophomore!!!!! My freshman year, I rushed and ended up accepting a bid from a house I wasn't super psyched about but wanted to give it a chance. I ended up dropping the house 2 days before initiation & LOVED being an independent for first semester of sophomore year. Rushed again as a sophomore and got my #1 pick!!!!!
Lots of houses love sophomores bc most people grow up a good amount & become more self-aware between freshman and sophomore year.
Good luck making ur decision!!! Keep in mind u can try out the house ur in rn for awhile, so long as u drop before initiation u can still rush next year

Well that's awesome "Good Luck" but you are a rarity.
It is harder for 99% of girls who go through again as a sophomore and 99.9% chance that you will not get tri delt again.
If you absolutely can't stand the house you are in now then drop, don't wait longer and continue to let them buy you letter items and for a bond...

My update on my situation: it’s a year later and I didn’t drop my house and obviously Tri Delta got kicked off. I still wish I had dropped the house that I am in, though, because I still don’t feel like I belong here and I don’t really enjoy it at all. It actually sucks. I wish I had re-rushed not for Tri delta but to find a home I loved. I’m planning on disaffiliating because it’s not worth the money for being unhappy. I really wish I had pride to wear my letters and love my sorority but unfortunately I don’t. Just sharing my experience for girls who are in my position right now.
