suicided house, got no bid

I know I probably shouldn't have suicided but one of my friends told me it would increase my chances of being in a housed chapter. Now I'm left bidless and this process has me feeling down. Not sure if I made the right choice.

Also suiciding has no affect on what house you get other than it limiting your choices.

False. Under the rfm system, maximizing your options increases your chance of getting a bid by allowing you to be considered for a quota addition. If you suicide you cannot be a quota addition.

Because honestly I didn't have a clue either...no one in my family has ever gone greek before

You made your decision. Live with it.

Like the other poster noted, a few houses might have informal. That is probably your last chance. Some houses have a "once cut/always cut policy."

thanks...I mean I realize now it was a mistake.

I'll be looking into informal opportunities with the housed chapters tht are doing it.

My roommate and a few other girls I know are going to end up in the unhoused sororities (they only preffed those and they found out today that they got bids), so I want to see what it's like for them before pursuing those, but if I see they are having fun then I'll definitely look into the unhoused chapters. I probably wasn't being entirely fair to them, but it is what it is and that's where I am with that aspect of it now.

So say you got cut from a house that is doing informal before pref. Do you stand a chance?

It depends...is membership of the house kind enough to give you another chance?

The answer is likely no. But you can try. Who knows why they cut you--whatever the reason is, that's what matters most, but you don't actually know what the reason is, so you won't know.

Plus some chapters have a "if we cut you once, we will never reconsider you" policy
