fitting in

I am an incoming transfer student and I am absolutely terrified for a few reasons.
1) I have always dreamed of being a sorority but I am scared I won't get to be in one because of my sophomore/junior status
2) I am also scared because quite of a few people who bullied me in middle and high school are in the sororities at State and I am scared they will get me blacklisted.
3) Is it easy to make friends at Michigan State? I have always been the odd girl out and it makes me really upset to even think my few years at MSU will be like that. My orientation is coming up soon and I am hoping to make friends that I will tailgate with, go out with, etc.

Do not be scared!
1- if you have 2 or 3 years left then not all houses will cut you (some do make cuts on age though).
2- do you really want to be in a house with girls similar to and with the ones that bully you? No. There's 14 houses, you will find one for you!
3- the Greek system is best for making friends but go out and join clubs, get involved, be friendly! The ball is in your court

If you are worried about already being blacklisted by your former high bullies. (so you say).. You obviously are a social concern for our sororites!! Sororities are a sisterhood ,for girls who get along with others and are not social outcasts. Save yourself some respect... Don't rush!

You will be fine. Just keep your head up and stay strong. My little sister was bullied a lot, so I understand where you are coming from. It is hard because it has such in imprint in you. At this point in your life, YOU have the power. You need to make it your obligation to be strong, and happy, and forgive your past.
You need to be more confident in yourself if you want not only to have a good rush, but to just be happy. Please don't dwell on things that happened so long ago. There is a chance people changed with time and maturity.
I sincerely wish you the best :)
#5by: Truth about Recruitment
I hate to say it, but you probably won't get to choose your house in the way you think you will. It is a mutual selection process going through rush but in the end the sororities have the upper hand. I'm not saying this to deter you from recruitment, I'm just saying it so that you don't have your heart set on KD or ChiO and then end up getting dropped and have your heart broken. Who knows! You may end up in either of those houses, but make sure to keep an open mind.

Basically I would say the top 5-6houses (check the unofficial rankings they're pretty close) will drop you on age unless you are gods gift to sorority life. Other houses you have a chance but again it is mutual selection, you don't "try out" or work hard to get into a house, you act like yourself. Trust the girls recruiting you. You may love a house + their philanthropy but what if that girl doesn't see you fitting into her house? You don't want to be stuck in a house with not close girls. Also, by being older sometimes you have trouble getting close to your 17-18 year old pledge sisters. Just something to think about.

I am going to be 20, almost 21 during rush. Do you know which houses will cut me just on that? I am taking my time at state. I will graduate in three years.
I just found out one of the girls graduated (thank GOD) I am just nervous that they will say bad thing about me when they know I am going through rush.
The houses I am drawn to right now for philanthropy reasons are Kappa Delta, and Chi Omega. I know nothing about the girls in the house. I just really want to be involved with those organizations.
