Jiayi Dai had only just arrived in East Lansing.

She was leaving China for Michigan State University and international student orientation and the start of her freshman year, which she never got to start.

Dai died on Saturday morning. East Lansing police were called to an apartment in the 300 block of Pin Oak Lane shortly before 8 a.m. Police believe alcohol may have played a role in her death. She was 19 years old.
