A sorority is a business
by: juniorthoughtsHoping this reaches a pnm that is on the fence about recruitment or joining a sorority. I'm a junior in a mid/top house if that matters. A few of my sisters and I are most likely disaffiliating as juniors because after the first 2 years, being in a sorority is completely pointless. They suck you in with the promise of friendship/boys/parties, but the reality of it is it's more like a small scale total institution disguised as a social club. They have a say in what you wear to events, which sisters go to the top frats, and you get fined over the dumbest things. They want freshman because they want your money to live in the house sophomore year where you will then recruit the next pledge class. Once you are junior status you're basically considered washed up and no one really cares about you. If I could go back, I would have focused on making friends in my major program and joined a few clubs. That's all you really need. At the end of the day, a sorority is a business and girls fall into the trap of seeing the "fun" on social media but it's not completely accurate.
