how tough is recuritment ?
by: PNM2019Coming from a southern state where recuritment is cut throat. Is it the same here? Are rec’s important? Any information is appreciated!

Compared to the south, Greek life is pretty laid back here, I never got rec letters or hired a rushing coach and I got into an amazing house that I love! Just be yourself and you’ll have nothing to worry about, most houses recruit based on personality and who they think will be a good fit within their chapter. Just let your inner self shine and you’ll find a house you’ll soon call home

I came from a southern state and knew no one. It was still brutal because of that. I pledged a house I like, but was cut from A LOT - even my legacy house. Connections are still important. It might make sense to think about rushing as a sophomore, if you don't know anyone in the houses. If you are determined to rush as a freshman - just keep an open mind to all the chapters.

went in nearly blind with very little knowledge of what to expect. no recs (i dont think msu chapters even accept recs tbh), coaching, or preparation besides some advice from an older friend whos in a msu sorority. i would suggest getting rush outfits together during the summer, otherwise your rho gammas prepare you on what to (and not to) talk about, what to do, where to go, etc. Be open-minded and dont be rude and stand-offish during rush parties even if you're not in love with that house. recruitment is a pain, but it is what you make it. be positive and make the most out of each rush party

Was your legacy house considered a top house? Also did you get rec's for the ones you could?
