state vs st marys-notre dame or loyola-chicago

by:

hi. I love MSU (my parents are alums) and I was wondering if any girls here chose MSU over out of state private colleges? State is so much fun and I have so many friends there but I'm also mulling smaller colleges where I don't know as many people (which I think is exciting, too). Just wondering the thought process that made you choose State. Was money a factor? thank you!!

I'll bite but I think you might be trolling. First hasn't been called st Mary's Notre dame for years. This school screams I wanted to go to Notre dame but couldn't get in so I will pretend I go to Notre dame. Sorry just how I see it. Loyola city school lots of commuters. Way overpriced for the education you receive very average school. Might throw some money your way if you are a decent student. Surrounding neighborhoods sketchy. DePaul in much better city local. Again lots of commuters but at least in a cool part of the city. Michigan state huge big 10 school with lots of instate students who went to hs together but also a lot of out of state from Chicago area, east and west coast. These schools are so random and have nothing in common so not sure where you are headed with this. Highly doubt anyone had a similar list and would be able to help you because this list makes no sense.

If you're cute and well off (assuming since Marian alum) you'll easily get into a top house here as a sophomore transfer. I'd give Loyola a shot for a year with State as a backup plan. Live a little. :)

Sounds like a Catholic school chic. Lot of my friends in high school went to Mercy Marian NDP. Two of them went to Loyola but transferred here after freshman year. Both are sort of overrated for what they charge but are pretty generous with scholarships.

St Marys is like going to LCC and raging at all the State tailgates pretending to be an MSU student. They have no admissions standards, they accept every Notre Dame groupie girl that applies. Loyola seems chill, sick location on the water. But idk anyone who stayed all four years. Why pay Ivy League / Georgetown / Boston College tuition to go to a school that doesn't have a rep any better than MSU?

Few here can afford private college tuition. Even if your parents are upper middle class and pull in a solid $250,000 a year, writing four $60,000 checks to a private college is tough to swallow. And the few actual rich kids here that could afford private came here because they feared being outside of their high school bubble.

Private colleges give out a lot of $ In scholarships if you have average grades/test scores or slightly above. You don’t have to be at the top of your class. But there are far better options than these two. Agree with what everyone is saying about St. Mary’s and Loyola. I am from Chicago area and Loyola is waaaayyy up there in Rogers Park, very sketch you really need to know your way around the city and know what to avoid. This is not a “cool” part of Chicago with the fun bars/clubs like Lincoln Park or the downtown Loop area or where you saw all the Lolla pics. You will have to uber or train 30 minutes+ to anywhere you would want to go there is no campus town to speak of. If you are interested in taking the road less travelled talk to your hs counselor to get other ideas.

St Marys might be fun during the the first couple months of school (tailgating), but after that it prob kicks in that you're paying 60 large a year to be at a dumpy non-prestigious school in the middle of nowhere that Notre Dame bros treat like dumb groupies.
