hard getting in?

by: Jo

As a incoming freshman with no clue whatsoever, how many girls rush every year and how many actually get in? Like what is the likelyhood of getting a bid?

It is,not that hard to get a bid as long as you are open to ALL houses. Every year there are girls who come on this site complaining about needing more sororities at msu because they got dropped from the houses they wanted and thinking they are too good for "lower" tier houses. Not everyone can be in chi o or alpha phi and many shouldn't want to because it wouldn't be a good fit. Pnm's are often blinded by perceived rankings and write of good houses that would be a great fit for them. So if you are open you will most likely get a bid but if you are only willing to be in a few your chances decline drastically.

Thank you! I'm open to anything and everything, but I'm also a Swedish exchange student. I'm guessing that decreases my chances a whole lot, even if there's no language barrier. Does international students ever rush? I don't have an accent so would you think it's better for me to just pretend I'm American? Hope you understand where I'm getting at

Being an exchange student will not limit your chances at all. You will have some interesting talking points and will be different in a good way. Be yourself and you will be fine!

The only was being an international will hurt is if you are only planning on being here for a year or two. If you plan to stay and graduate from msu then no worries.

This is probably one of the best responses in the history of Greekrank. Good relationships and memories are the goal, not tiers. Thank you.

There are 14 sororities and pledge class are usually at or about 50 girls. The size of the pledge class is determined by a number of things....the number of total girls remaining when pref day occurs along with each sororitiy's physical house size and the pledge class size set by each national board. Because so many girls drop out of the recruitment process before pref day for various reasons, usually most, if not all, girls remaining at the end will get a bid. Please go into recruitment with an open mind and follow the process through to the end. You will end up in the sorority that is perfect for you!

how hard is it to get a bid from a house that isn't the bottom 2? Like are pi phi / dg / and gphi hard to get into as well?

It isn't super hard to get into them, but they can be kind of strict about if you would fit into their house given your personality. I'm in a middle-upper tier sorority (supposedly and does not matter at all because tiers don't mean anything and should not exist) and I got dropped from dg and gphi which I was surprised about. So just be yourself and everything will work out :)
