what are the top fraternities nationally?

I would go with this, but I want to hear other opinions:
Sigma Chi, SAE
Fiji, Sig Ep, DKE
Pike, KS, KA, Phi Delt,
LXA, ATO, Pi Kap, Sigma Nu
Theta Chi, Delta Chi, DTD

Every house mentioned above is very strong nationally. In terms of size, SAE, Sigma Chi, SigEp, Lambda Chi, Pikes, and TKE are the biggest but the other houses are pretty large too. Top is completely opinion-based. It's different at every school. All of those houses have great chapters.

Sigma Chi and SAE are recognized as the two most prominent nationally. Beta's also strong.
Pikes is really strong at MSU, but kinda a joke nationally.
Sig Ep's traditional chapters are strong, but their Balanced Man chapters are viewed as a joke.
DKE sucks in a lot of places, but where they're strong, they're REALLY strong (think Bama and Yale). Same with Kappa Sigma,
Tekes, Sigma Pi, ATO, and DChi suck everywhere.
Lambda, KA, SNu and Delt Sig have hotspots down South but are weak in the North.

Fiji does not suck. Don't know what schools you've visited lol. Strong in alot of places especially in the south. They are behind SAE, Sigma Chi, and Lambda chi in terms of size but are big in a lot of states across the country. Pikes, although hit or miss and kinda made fun of, is a big enough house nationally where they are pretty strong. Same goes for Beta and Sig Eps.
KA is really strong if you live south of the Mason Dixon.
All the above houses have the biggest national presence and you are going to find quality sizable houses more often than not wherever you are. North, South, East, or West.

National size can matter in terms of your network after college:
Not sure of the order but SAE, SigEps, SigmaChi, Lambda, and Pikes are the biggest. Massive alumni bases.
Most of the other houses are really solid too.
But every campus is different in terms of house quality and also networks within specific chapters.
