is msu a "slacker u" ... "high school 2.0"?

by:

That's what my family and their friends think. Will I be stereotyped if I go there? Is it hard to make new friends because a lot of Oakland County, & Lansing and Grand Rapids area high schools send like a 100 students each each year?

It definitely isn't a slacker school. I go to a better B10 school and while my friends at MSU work less they still study a lot and have pressure to perform well. It's not hard to make friends just don't be weird af

it is a slacker school, it's easy af and everyone is pretty provincial. anyone disagreeing is just too stupid and naive to know any better. my high school AP courseload was harder than three years of state.

Msu is not a slacker school. Yes a lot of Michigan kids here but also a fair amount from the Chicago area, east cost, and west coast. You can chose to continue to hang out with just your high school friends if you want but very easy to meet a wide variety of people especially if you go Greek.

Nobody here makes new friends. It's high school 2.0. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying. The same couple high schools dominate the top houses. Friends from those same high schools visit every other weekend and j-rk each other off about high school BS. State is for slacker kids too scared to leave the delusional bubble they grew up in. This bubble breeds a laughably absurd overconfidence is ones intelligence, skills, attractiveness. Then they all funnel to Chicago (or Royal Oak/Detroit) and realize people treat MSU grads like ret-ards and so they again enter another MSU bubble in like Lakeview or Lincoln Park Chicago...where they get chubby and beg their parents for rent money.

I hate this school and regret coming here.

well i transferred into michigan state from a "better" big ten school because i hated how snobby the people were. i am out of state and do not regret my decision at all. I have met so many people. Yes, people hang out with their high school friends sometimes but a lot more people branch out. if you are kind and friendly you will meet amazing people. i've only been here for a year and i wish i had initially decided to come here. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience but there's 50,000 students here and you sound like you're in the same bubble. Maybe branch out and find nicer, less self absorbed humans????

I don't think MSU offers a real college experience because everyone knows everyone else. You can't reinvent yourself or get out of your comfort zone here if like 1,000 kids from back home are here.

And first and second year courses are all in massive lecture halls. It's basically a Walmart education. But I guess that's why it's only $24k a year and the privates are $50-70k.

the top 10% is smart but overwhelming majority here are dumb & lazy af. the issue is few here know any smart people, like they don't even grasp how assertive, aggressive and sharp a legitimately smart peer is. that's why everyone here hates UofM, the kids there intimidate them during just brief encounters. even the "dumb" kids at UofM run circles around the "smart" kids here.

All the frats and sororities are high school buddies. To a lot of people here that's ideal, I personally think it's lame af.
