do you believe kids that say they got into u-m?

by: honestly

but chose to come here? So many kids say this and say they loved this campus better or the party scene. The only kids I can see doing that are maybe the pre-vet and maybe some Briggs kids, but it's almost always communication, packaging, advertising, Broad and JMC kids saying it. Why lie?

Yes I do believe some kids got into Michigan but chose state. Ross is so hard to get into so if you want a business degree state is safer bet. They also have top ranked packaging and supply chain programs in the country so yes some chose state for a those reasons.

Economics degree from UofM is better than any concentration at Broad.

Down vote all you want but I'd take a UMich econ degree over a finance or supply chain degree from here all day. Econ there can also scoop a minor in business from Ross.

I'd also choose LSA at UMICH over any major here. Even in Broad courses I have kids in class that were idiots in high school. I don't know any idiots from my high school at Michigan. Just a fact.

Econ at UMICH > anything at Broad

The packaging program is "top ranked" because MSU is one of a dozen US schools that offer bachelors degrees in the field. (Other schools with undergrad packaging programs include Clemson University, Fashion Institute of Technology, Indiana State University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rutgers University, San Jose State University, University of Florida, University of Wisconsin - Stout, and Virginia Tech.) If you didn't know better, even a #12 ranking sounds pretty great - right?

That's not to say that packaging students don't receive a good education or that they don't find gainful employment. They do, and they're proud Spartans. However, I don't think it's smart to act like the students in the packaging department came to MSU to become packaging experts. Most of the time, they came for engineering or Broad - but things didn't go their way.

Parchment says 90% of the cross admits choose UofM. Unless you won a scholarship or Izzo is recruiting you, why would anyone choose the 85th ranked college over the 25th ranked college? They're cost neutral. It's nonsensical. The lie is especially funny from a Greek who is obsessed with the tier of their house, i.e. obviously status obsessed.

It honestly depends on the person. If they were dead set on going to u of m and then all of a sudden wanted to come here I'm suspicious. But if they were undecided or wishy-washy or it aligned better with their degree then I usually take their word.

Every drunk sorority girl claims they got a 31 on their ACT and got into Michigan.

Yea lots of people get 31 on the ACT, get into Michigan, and then come to STATE to be an advertising bimbo or some JMC idiot that will end up at Cooley. Saddest part is they are convinced people believe them.

They both have very different vibes. u of m is way more competitive and less friendly and not everyone wants that type of vibe. And the campus is all throughout the city where at state it's a campus IN the city which many people prefer. I think those are definitely large factors.

I know 2 girls that got into both. They ended up coming here because they were intimidated by UofM kids. There aren't any slackers to make you feel smart by default at UofM. Almost everyone there is aggressive and outgoing and has their eye on a big goal. Some kids crumble in that environment.

There is nothing that makes you sound like a bigger try-hard pathological lying idiot than "I got into Michigan but came here."

If it's a frat or frat rat saying it it's 1000000% lie.

Some dorky pre-vet chick, sure, I can see it.

It depends on context but sometimes I'm willing to believe it. If it's during hate week I usually call BS. If they're announcing it to everyone at a party it's usually BS.

All I'm going to say is that even if someone did well enough to get into U-M, they may not enjoy the atmosphere or (like me) may want to get some distance between themselves and their hometown

Not enjoy the atmosphere? You mean being around smarter people? So you're weak and easily intimidated? That's not exactly a trait recruiters want to hear.

Unless they can prove to me they won a full ride scholarship - e.g. Distinguished Scholarship - they're lying. Come on, both colleges cost about the same. It's like going to Cal State or Cal-Berkeley. Nobody does that unless they're retarded.
