I think certain houses have to cut 1/2 and others cut zero. It depends on your sorority.

If you're a top house like xo you are allowed to make larger cuts because almost all pnms put you on their list. If you're sdt you are allowed to invite back almost everyone. It's a predetermined number by panhel so that on pref day xo doesn't end up with 1000 girls at their house and sdt 15. It also gives girls a chance to go to "less popular" houses more to give them a second chance once they've been cut from the popular ones.

There is actually science behind the process based on return rate for each house. This way, the entire greek system stays strong. For the first party, the houses eliminate girls who do not have the required GPA or are not full-time students, etc. Then, they are given a number of girls they can invite back. Most girls going through are given a rating and the ratings are averaged and ranked. It sounds like a numbers game because it is. Top houses usually can only invite around 50% (changes every year based on the past year) back because between 90-100% of the girls they invite will agree to come back. So, if you have a 3.49 and the cut was 3.50 you will not be invited back. It is kind of impersonal during the first phases of recruitment but meeting 1200 girls in 14 hours is the only way this can work.
