second semester

So I've always wanted to rush, but I couldn't freshman year due to this program I was in.
Now as a sophomore my grades are not stellar and it's keeping me from being able to rush this fall. Since a few girls always drop from some sororities due to various reasons, I was wondering, if second semester my grades are good, would certain sororities that don't do COB events be willing to let me take the place of one of the girls who dropped? Has this been done before?
I've dreamed of being in a sorority for forever and would love to know. I feel like this is my last chance.

And if it helps year wise, I'm staying an extra year so I have more time to be in the sorority.
