Bid selection (???)

Hi, I'm going to be sdsu co'25 and I'm considering rushing a sorority, however, I've heard so many negative things about how girls are chosen to be in a sorority. Does membership honestly heavily rely on superficial things like looks? I don't mean for this to sound accusatory AT ALL but this is a concern of mine. idc about rankings and stuff that's just extremely juvenile, but I do want to be sure that I'm not putting myself into a toxic environment when I become a student in the fall. The sisterhood surrounding sororities is super appealing to me but I'm not too sure if this is the way to find it.
If anyone can respond id be very appreciative!

If you are looking to meet people and make friends for life then sorority recruitment is a great way to do that! If you want to avoid the more competitive and superficial sororities then avoid the top tier houses, A Phi, AXO, Pi Phi, the rest of the houses have members who are more down to earth and less competitive.

I rushed last semester and dg, gphi and kd were so sweet and the girls were so down to earth

Yes I agree the upper mid sororities are slightly less superficial and have such a great sisterhood
