greek life expansion

by:

Are we getting another fraternity back this year? I know we had two come back each of the past two years. I've seen Delta Chi mentioned a few times on here so just curious. Same question for sororities

All the guys who belong in a fraternity (and many who don't) are already in one. Then on the sorority side no national chapters are interested in colonizing at SDSU.

IFC opened for expansion earlier this year for the first time since 2009 and set a 4 year schedule
Fall '18 - No expansion
Fall '19 - Delta Chi (last active at SDSU in 1996)
Fall '20 - Beta Theta Pi (last active 2000)
Fall '21 - Tau Kappa Epsilon (last active 2000)

Idk whats happening with sororities though

How is it the first expansion since 2009 if we just had four frats come back in two years

Because those were all recolonizations, meaning the chapters were gone from campus for 4 years or less and didnt have to go through the regular expansion process. When a fraternity gets shut down, it's important whether they were shut down by their own nationals or by the university. If the national org pulls the plug, it's usually kind of up to them when they want to come back. If the university pulls the plug, it's usually not

I think panhell rules allows for 1 expansion every 3 years so maybe. AGD expanded in 2013 and Theta in 2016 so next year would seem possible if there is interest. More sorority housing needs to be built though

There isn't any expansion scheduled this school year as stated above. If someone wanted to bring back or bring on a new fraternity this year it would have to be student-led meaning starting an "interest group" instead of a "colony". Kappa Sig like 4 or 5 years ago was the last time a fraternity successfully came on that way
