advice i wish i got before rushing

by:

I am writing this as a "former" sorority member at SDSU. I dropped out of my sorority my sophomore year and wish someone had given me the advice I will share with you so you don't make the same mistake I made during rush:
Just like you I couldn't wait to get here and be in a sorority, go to fun frat parties, and have a ton of sisters to laugh, cry, and have fun with. I spent my summer getting my outfits together for rush and spent endless hours researching all of the sororities. I was ready -wrong!!
Rush was fun -stressful yes but fun. I found myself clicking more with a house and girls that I didn't deem to be in the "top" tier but who doesn't want to be in a top house?!. So when it came down to pref night and my "top" house invited me back I was so excited.
I went and all I can say is I felt intimidated from the moment I walked in - they were all perfect. I felt uncomfortable all night. After, I went to pref at the house I clicked with and felt really comfortable from the moment I got there.
Who did I pick later -yep, the top house and guess what? I never felt like I fit in and I did try. I reached out, volunteered but I just didn't fit. By my sophomore year I knew it was time to quit.
I do not in any way blame my old sorority -I blame myself for not listening to myself during rush week and pref night.
The lesson - choose the sorority you feel most comfortable in, where you can be yourself. Don't get caught up in the rankings.
