the truth about greek life
by: truth
for incoming freshmen stalking this website; greek life at SDSU is a lose lose situation. Greek life has become one of the most toxic aspects at this school. put together egotistical, superficial girls who care about their instagram and social following, and guys with an alpha male mentality and you get what greek life has become today. Huge division between “top” sororities and frats, zero greek unity, and a whole created status and assumptions based on your chapter. only the cool, popular kids get to party together. if your in a middle or bottom house expect a social life far less exciting and exclusive
but what happens if you don’t join greek life? well then it’s 100 times harder to have a social life. your labeled as a geed and yes that’s a bad thing at SDSU. you won’t get Into frat parties unless your a girl. even so, you’ll only get to go bottom houses unless you make friends with top house girls. if your a guy, expect the extent to your social life drinking in dorms. and after that nothing. obviously there are some exceptions but that is just the harsh reality.

Most of what you’re saying is true but this is not an SDSU-specific problem. I can tell you now, colleges everywhere are experiencing this and I hate to say it but the rise of social media in recent years is what has really exacerbated all this. It’s the same deal on every campus right now unfortunately.

I've seen a recent change in the greek unity aspect, when I was here there were fights in greek circle, frat row, etc. now it seems frats are mixing with each other. maybe not going to each others parties but hanging out. Its becoming a lot more unified as the school is trying to break them down

If you don't like it at SDSU then I would suggest transferring (if you're a sophomore at least). You are not alone. I thought my experience at SDSU was going to be so much better than it turned out to be but much of my time here has been lonely and depressing. I didn't know it was going to be so exclusive and cliquey to the point where it feels like just an extension of high school. I shouldn't have to spend thousands of dollars just to have the ultimate college experience. I just don't get why social life at SDSU is so dependent on Greek life. I read somewhere that the party scene used to not be so exclusive and only became that way because of increased police presence.

If the only partying you do aT SDSU is drinking in ur dorm room then like.....get outside? There's like a billion clubs. I guarantee u most of those house parties aren't even frat parties like wtf. Then when you're a junior go go PB. Like this is immature grow up. You shouldn't be so butt hurt that you can't party with the top frats

Not at UCSB. Greek life isn't prominent there and parties are more inclusive. Everybody parties whether they're in Greek or not
