what are sororities really looking for
by: incomingim an incoming freshman looking to rush and im just curious what each of the sororities really prioritize and are looking for in girls.. please dont give me the "youll end up in the best house for you just be yourself!!11!" bc im not using these to preface my decisions, im just truly interested in seeing if they have any lowkey criteria

i’m going to be honest, only a couple of houses care about looks. I know it might not seem like it but most of it is personality/ values. Sororities like to know you were involved in high school. if not, that’s ok, you can just tell them you want to get involved in college! they want to know how you value friendships, and if that means you would be a good fit for their chapter.the most importnant thing is how excited about the chapter. sororities want people who want them! show enthusiasm for the chapters you want.

There are a couple of sororities that uses looks as a value. That’s fine. Every sorority looks for different qualities. if you value looks/image/instagram/trendiness then you can join a sorority that values those things.
a majority of sororities do not use looks as a deciding factor AT ALL. I can speak for my chapter and most other that if we were to ever bring up how a person looks when going over PNMS, we would get repromended. But, like i said some sororities are like that and it’s OKAY. It’s not right, it’s not wrong but just differnent. Overall, they’re just looking to see if you would get along with girls in their chapter.

for my sorority especially on the first day when the convo is very surface level we focus on how much you appear to care about school, and if you seem interested in getting involved on campus/leadership positions. if you don’t seem to care about that stuff it’s a huge red flag honestly for any chapter. tip if you get turned away from a house you thought went well just remember they really do know their house best and there’s so much more that you don’t acually know about the house, so not to be cliche but it really does work out the way it’s supposed to lol

and on the looks note i really feel like only 2 or so chapters actually care about it, most other chapters i feel like care more about the conversation flow more and whether it’s awkward
