 Meeting of the National Board of Directors : April 8 and 9, 2016

Substance-Free Housing
Foundation President Hammond provided a report from the North American Interfraternity Council’s (NIC) Alcohol Commission. The Board discussed the report and how substance-free policy would best be implemented and enforced. Warren confirmed that discussions will continue and a suggested plan of action for fraternity-wide substance-free facilities adoption and budget implications will be presented at the fall meeting.

Sigep is the "sorority of fraternities." In other words, they don't have a pledge process or hazing, so you become a full member with letters as soon as you get your bid. They'll let just about anyone in, making for a weak brotherhood. More of a social club than a traditional fraternity. Anyways, nice guys but not at all respected by other frats

This group of guys pulls from a completely different pool than most of the "top tier" fraternities, cause the kids they give bids to are the kids who don't want to get hazed. Brotherhood is weak because of that and some of them don't know each others names. Viewed as the nice guys they can commonly be found whipping the frisbee in the quad with their frat bros. Sororities friend zone them hard. Overall however, Sigma Phi Hairsalon is on the rise.

I am a freshman gender queer freshman and these guys really made me feel wanted. My first party with them and like 22 of them took the time to get to know me well. By the end of the night I was covered in their spirit of brotherhood.

Q. No one else on campus operates like this. Why should we?
A. If your campus had 18 McDonalds within two square miles, would you open another McDonalds? No, you are better off building a Subway to make yourself more attractive. Offering something different than your peers allows you to attract the best students, leaders and athletes. Furthermore, Sigma Phi Epsilon is successful because SigEp is different. The five tenets outlined above will run counter to the prevailing attitudes among other fraternities on campus. Chapters and their members must have the confidence to be different than their peers.

If there were a place that had 18 McDonalds stores in a 2 square mile area - I would think "Damn! These people really like Big Macs. They eat so many goddamn Big Macs that the market supports 18 franchises. The demand for Big Macs is off the chart! I'm gonna invest in McDonalds franchise right there!". I would not be investing in a waffle house...
