Based on membership and retention, some chapters simply don’t have as many bids to give before they get to pan total. Their girls stay long term and don’t drop so there aren’t as many slots to fill during recruitment.

Moderator doesn’t understand what quota means so let me explain. Quota is the number of girls your chapter needs to get to pan total. If your chapter achieved pan total during formal recruitment than a smaller member class means your chapter had less slots to fill. If you have less slots to fill then your chapter can be more selective and, therefore, it’s tougher to get a bid from the chapter. That’s why sorority member classes vary in number.

This is also why only the last school year of membership data is important to recruitment discussions. Membership trends absolutely matter and are taken into consideration for Greek awards but for both fall and spring recruitment, it’s only the last year that matters because it indicates roughly how many slots are available (before graduations are factored in and before pan total for the new semester is established) in each chapter.
