pi kapp "pledges"?

by: ..

Does anybody else in the greek community think it's extremely disrespectful that they "take pledges" in their pseudo-fraternity and never actually initiating them because they can't? I mean, these kids will never actually be apart of a fraternity and it takes away from the actual greek community guys who could be the IFC president one day for all we know? But we wouldn't, because of that.

No. Not really. I don't find it disrespectful. Their "pledges" know what they're getting themselves into. No one is forcing them to join.

I highly doubt any guy who knowingly joins a disbanded fraternity would have the ambition to end up as IFC president anyway.

Its not like anyone is taking anything away from them. They are choosing to join. Same sort of situation with D chi.

I mean how does it "take away from the actual greek community"? Thats like saying students who join clubs on campus and don't have the time to go greek/choose not to are taking away from greek life. They made their choice. Let them be. Don't really see what the issue is.

They're young. You would never know who would become an IFC president when you're only a freshman. A lot of them probably didn't know what they were getting themselves into and just wanted to be apart of what the Pi Kapp chapter used to be. D chi is different. They still have all rights and privileges nationally as any other school initiating a member into delta chi. I agree with the whole thing about it not taking away from the greek community though. That makes sense.

^^ Who cares though? Thats the point. It doesn't matter what people choose to do with their involvement. Greek life is thriving without them so who gives a damn?

I just really think it emphasizes the wrong things. I guarantee you that not all members in The former chapter of Pi Kapp 100% agree with this, and these kids will never be called their "brother" besides the whole 2016 BS that they try to justify it with and banking on that they could get a bid then. The point is, even if it's in 2016 the national chapter will be doing the recruiting. You think they're going to be going for a bunch of seniors on their way out who had close ties to the fake fraternity that they expelled from that campus? No. If anything that will make them stay far, far away from those guys because they kicked them off for a reason. Even if they could, you think these guys are going to want to get a bid as seniors? It's just wrong and it's taking away from the actual greek community. It's also disrespecting the new guys Bexuase they're just being bullied by a bunch of Pi Kapp alums for no reason at all. To what? To party at an off campus house? It really misses the other, very real benefits of being in a fraternity.

Well said. Definitely agree, But it kinda misses the possibility of a kid who just really is chill with the guys and doesn't want to go greek but still wants to party. Even though he'll be hazed I'm sure, he probably knew all about that before he joined the pseudo fraternity and he's totally okay with it. There's guys like that in every class of every fraternity

You have way too much time on your hands to worry about this. Let. Them. Do. What. They. Want.

You're worried about their wellbeing and what they're missing out on? What are you their mommies? Seriously, just leave it alone. Who cares

OP really does have a point. They're really not supposed to be doing that. But yeah, as I said, they can do whatever they want. I absolutely do see where OP is coming from though. We lost a guy to Pi Kapp and I was really mad because the actives really liked the kid we were going to bid.

I just find it weird how they still try to function like a fraternity to be honest. That's just me.

Its just disrespectful that they would still try to function like a fraternity even after getting the boot. They're not respecting their national chapter to the fraternity they claim to love so much

So what? How is that your problem? If its disrespectful to IFC or their Nationals, then the IFC or Pi Kapp Nationals will deal with it. Stop whining about a problem that doesn't involve you.
